Becoming a member means you can dance free at any class or request night for the entire year.
If you are an experienced folk dancer, you are welcome to join Berkeley Folk Dancers at any time and at any class level, for $160/year. Some experienced dancers prefer to join the Beginners class, so as to learn the whole repertoire. A different list of dances is taught at each level, and every class does the dances of its own repertoire and those of all the levels that precede it. The membership year runs from Sept. 1 to Aug. 31; but you can also join later in the year. If you don't wish to join, you are always welcome to pay $5 a session. The second session is free if you pick up a coupon at the first session you attend.
Students who attend school at least half-time but less than full-time receive a 50% discount on their BFD membership and pay $80/year. Full-time students are entitled to free membership.
If you're starting as a new dancer, you are invited to join either the afternoon or evening Beginner classes

The evening class offers an 8-week session for $30. (If you wish to take the class but missed the start of the 8-week session, drop in on the Beginners' class night and talk to the teacher.) A second 8-week session, for another $30, will follow it in November. After completing the two 8-week classes, you will be invited to become a member by paying the balance of the annual dues ($100). The afternoon class does not offer the 8-week sessions but new dancers can pay $5 per class while considering whether to join as a regular member. New members are ceremonially inducted into membership at the Birthday Ball in January. After that, you will be asked to renew your membership on Sept. 1 every year.
