Sunday, February 17, 1 pm - The Tamburitza Tradition: 20th SF Tamburitza Festival

Admission:  $20, Children Free ($15 in advance on    

Croatian Cultural Center, 60 Onondaga Ave., San Francisco

This year the featured guest will be Sinovi Tamburitza Orchestra. Based in Seattle, Washington, Sinovi performs traditional and popular Croatian music featuring the tambrutiza.  Food by Hristo will be available for purchase (cash only).

Admission: $9

St. Bede’s Church Hall, 2650 Sand Hill Road, Menlo Park  

Dances will be selected (a la iTunes Shuffle mode) from a list of 100 dances.  To suggest dances for the list contact Lucy or Karen, info at link below.  Please bring snacks to share.

Lew Smith and Melissa Miller will lead reviews of recent workshop dances for the first hour; request dancing follows.


Friday-Sunday, February 22-24 - Hazel Young Weekend

Admission: $15-$110

Hillside Community Church, 1422 Navellier St, El Ceritto

Hazel Young, a wonderful Circle Dance teacher from England, will be leading the workshop. Hours will be Friday 7:30-10pm, Saturday 10-5 pm, Sunday 1-5 pm.  You are welcome to come for any or all sessions.  There is a potluck supper on Friday and potluck lunch on Saturday.

Friday, March 15, 7:30-10:30 - Baba Marta’s Spring Party

Admission: $5 member, $7 non-members

Live Oak Park Community Center, 1301 Shattuck Avenue (at Berryman), Berkeley

We will be welcoming “Baba Marta” to 2019. If we get warm spring weather - Baba Marta is happy. If she’s angry - the winter frost will return.  So, let’s dance the night away and make Baba happy!! Wear your favorite Balkan costume or the traditional Martenitsa colors: re and white. Dances for all levels!

Adony is a charming dance generalist, enjoying all genres and folk dance types, with a current fondness for Israeli, Greek, Scottish and English.


Saturday, March 23, 7-11 pm - “Just Baskets” Theme Dance Party

Admission: $10

All Saints’ Episcopal, 555 Waverley St., Palo Alto

The Moveable Feet club celebrates the basket dance with popular front or back basket folk dances!  7-8pm: workshop on back basket hold and front basket hold dances with teachers Dan Unger and Sandra Biroc. 8-11 pm: dancing to theme dances and requests. Snack contribution appreciated!

June 15-22 - Balkan Music and Dance Workshops at Mendocino Folklore Camp

Cost: $485-$950 for adults, reduced fee for children.  (3-day to 1 week packages available)

Location: Mendocino Woodlands Camp, Mendocino, CA

A broad array of instrumental, vocal, ensemble, and dance classes at all levels are offered across five daily 75-minute class slots.  Online registration and much more information at the link below.

Note: A few partial-tuition-waiver work exchanges may be available for full-week participants. The deadline to apply for this is is May 1st. 


July 21-28 and July 28-August 4 - Stockton Folk Dance Camp

Cost: $550/week per person plus meals, lodging, and optional items

Location:  The University of the Pacific, Stockton, CA

Learn and celebrate folk dances from around the world!

This year’s teachers are Joe Kaloyanides Graziosi (Greek Dances), Gigi Jensen (Argentine Couple Dances), Gergana Panova (Bulgarian Dances), Tony Parkes (American Square Dances and Contras), Richard Schmidt (Polish Dances), Rebecca Tsai (Chinese Dances), Maurits van Geel (International Dances), Tineke van Geel (Armenian Dances).  The band will be Miamon Miller and Free Range Organic.
